De juiste dekking past bij je huid en gewenste uitstraling. Foundation egaliseert meestal het hele gezicht. Concealer werkt heel precies op kleine plekken. Een lichte dekking laat sproeten meestal zichtbaar. Een medium dekking verzacht kleurverschillen zonder een zwaar laagje te geven.
Volledige dekking vraagt vaak om dunne lagen, omdat één dikke laag sneller in lijntjes of poriën zichtbaar wordt. Kies ook een finish die bij je huid past. Matte formules beperken glans op een vettere T-zone gedurende de dag. Een stralende finish kan droogte minder benadrukken, terwijl extra glans op een vette huid sneller opvalt bij daglicht. Test de dekking altijd in natuurlijk licht.
De juiste tint verdwijnt optisch in je hals. Test daarom langs je kaaklijn. De huid van je hand wijkt vaak duidelijk af van je gezicht. Onderkleur bepaalt of een tint geel, roze of neutraal oogt. Warme ondertonen neigen vaak naar goud of perzik in daglicht.
Koele ondertonen hebben vaker roze of blauwachtige nuances, terwijl neutrale ondertonen tussen beide richtingen liggen. Daglicht geeft het betrouwbaarste oordeel. Laat een proefstreep enkele minuten zitten, omdat sommige formules na contact met huidvet of lucht iets donkerder kunnen worden dan direct na het aanbrengen op een schone en droge huid. Vergelijk daarom altijd meerdere aangrenzende tinten naast elkaar op je kaak. Een te lichte kleur maakt het gezicht vlak.
Je huidtype bepaalt welke textuur het prettigst draagt. Een vloeibare foundation verdeelt vaak gelijkmatig over grotere huidzones. Crèmeformules voelen doorgaans voller aan. Poederfoundation kan glans temperen bij een vettere huid gedurende de dag. Een droge huid waardeert vaak bevochtigende bestanddelen zoals glycerine.
Let bij een gevoelige huid op parfum en alcohol, want die kunnen bij sommige mensen irritatie geven. Niet elke alcoholsoort werkt uitdrogend. Siliconen geven vaak een gladder gevoel en helpen pigment gelijkmatig over de huid te verspreiden, zodat vlekken minder snel ontstaan. Olievrije formules zijn niet automatisch mat. Lees daarom de finish altijd naast de ingrediëntenlijst op de verpakking.
Een dunne basislaag geeft meestal het natuurlijkste resultaat. Werk vanuit het midden naar buiten. Een kwast geeft vaak meer dekking op rode plekjes. Een vochtige spons drukt product juist zacht en gelijkmatig in. Gebruik concealer pas na foundation voor een gerichte plaatselijke correctie.
Breng bij zichtbare poriën eerst een kleine hoeveelheid gezichtsprimer aan, omdat die de huid tijdelijk gladder kan laten ogen en foundation gelijkmatiger helpt hechten op de wangen en neus. Wacht daarna kort voordat je verder werkt. Te veel product verzamelt zich sneller rond neus en mond. Dep in plaats van te wrijven. Zo blijft de dekking rustiger op je huid gedurende de dag.
Fixeren verlengt de draagtijd van je basis. Los poeder neemt vooral oppervlakkige glans op gedurende de dag. Gebruik het spaarzaam op drogere zones van je gezicht. Een compacte poeder is handig voor bijwerken onderweg in je tas. Kies poeders als glans je foundation gedurende de dag zichtbaar verandert.
Een fixatiespray kan poederlagen minder droog laten ogen en brengt losse producten visueel samen op de huid. Dit geeft vaak een rustiger resultaat. Waterproof betekent niet dat elk product ook volledig wrijfvast blijft. Reinig kwasten en sponzen regelmatig, omdat oude resten de kleur kunnen beïnvloeden en puistjes kunnen verergeren. Vervang een spons zodra hij scheurt.
Veel miskopen ontstaan door een verkeerde kleurtest op de hand. Kunstlicht vertekent warme en koele ondertonen. Neem daarom voldoende tijd tussen testen en zorgvuldig beoordelen in daglicht. Een nieuwe formule kan na een uur anders ogen. Koop niet alleen op basis van de naam van een finish.
Een matte basis kan alsnog glanzen wanneer je huid veel talg produceert, terwijl een stralende formule soms juist droogte accentueert. Bouw dekking liever rustig op. Past dit niet bij je doel, dan is het bredere aanbod van gezichtsmake-up logischer. Voor extra kleur op de wangen passen blush en bronzers beter dan een donkerdere foundation. Een passende tint blijft altijd het vertrekpunt.
Dekking is de mate waarin pigment kleurverschillen en oneffenheden minder zichtbaar maakt. Lichte dekking laat de eigen huid duidelijk zien. Volledige dekking vraagt vaak om dunne lagen, zodat het product niet zwaar oogt rond poriën of lijntjes.
Finish is het zichtbare effect van een basisproduct nadat het op de huid is opgedroogd. Een matte finish beperkt glans. Een stralende finish weerkaatst meer licht, waardoor een droge huid vaak minder vlak lijkt.
Onderkleur is de warme, koele of neutrale tint die onder de zichtbare huidskleur ligt. Die ondertoon bepaalt of een basis geel, roze of neutraal oogt. Test langs de kaaklijn om te zien of de kleur aansluit op hals en gezicht.
Siliconen zijn gladmakende ingrediënten die producten beter laten verspreiden over de huid. Ze kunnen poriën tijdelijk minder zichtbaar laten lijken. Siliconen vormen geen garantie voor een matte finish en zijn niet voor iedereen ongeschikt.
Waterproof betekent dat een formule beter bestand is tegen water of transpiratie. Het zegt niet automatisch dat het product volledig wrijfvast blijft. Voor een goede houdbaarheid spelen voorbereiding, dunne lagen en fixeren ook mee.
Oxidatie is het donkerder of warmer worden van een formule na contact met lucht en huidvet. Dit effect verschilt per huid en product. Laat een proefstreep daarom enkele minuten zitten voordat je een tint beoordeelt.
